My Aunt and Uncle and their seven children came out to visit. They were on a road trip across the country and came out of their way to see us. We had a lot of fun cramming like sardines into our little place and catching up with them before they had to get on the road again. Such a cute family!
A couple of weeks ago, after a long day filled with too much time in front of the boob tube, I decided to do a TV free summer. We're more settled in our home now, and are getting more sleep at night, so I'm not quite as dependent upon the TV to entertain my kids. I knew if I really wanted to make it through the summer we had to have a plan. I sat down with my girl's and this is what we came up with,
Monday-Cooking Day. I let my girls choose a bunch of recipes they would like to make throughout the summer. A lot of them came off this blog.
Tuesday-Library Day. Our library has a summer reading program going on and we go once a week to get new books and enter into drawings for prizes. We've also been trying to have story time every day.
Wednesday-Game Day. This can be whatever we happen to feel like that day. The park, water games, board games, hide and seek etc.
Thursday-Service Day. I still don't have much planned for this, but I've really been feeling like I need to teach my children to serve. Any ideas?
Friday-Craft Day. We got a few ideas off of this blog post.
We have a lot of fun things going on in our community too that we have plans to attend. So far we've done pretty good. There have been a few times when I've really needed a break and I let them watch a movie though.
Violet is 11 weeks old now! She is smiling more and more, but I have had the hardest time catching it on camera. I have been able to catch a few happier expressions though.
On Sunday, I decided we should have a pedicure party. Kirk was napping and I needed to fill time. It was a little stressful, but the girls had fun, so I guess that's what matters. Even Violet got her toes painted!

I love that you made a goal to do a TV free summer, I love the plan you came up with, I'll probably copy some of your ideas. Violet is so cute! I can't wait to meet her. :)
I think I've watched more TV this summer than I have my entire life, combined. I need to adopt more of a no-TV policy. I'm so impressed. And that you drove with all three kids. Wish I was closer and I'd watch them for you.
