Half Birthday

The other day Luci asked me, "how come it's going to be a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long day until my birthday?" My replies weren't enough to appease her longing to have a birthday so we decided to celebrate her half birthday, which is today!

To celebrate, Kirk made her a half of a carrot cake with carrots from our garden. Added bonus: it was half whole wheat and half home made (store bought frosting). We gave her three and a half candles and sang Happy half-Birthday to her. Hopefully it appeased her for the next six months.

Luci is such a thinker. The other night when I was tucking her in bed she asked me "are there little people inside us that make pee and poo?" I gave her a nice discussion about our digestive system and asked her if she had any other questions. She immediately rattled off questions without hesitating to think them up, like: "How does our hair stay in?", "How do the walls stay up?", "Why do balls bounce?", "how does the fan work?", "how do we blink", "how does the guy in the music box pop out all by himself?".
I didn't even realize she thought about stuff like that yet. Every night since, we have started a tradition of letting her ask us a couple of questions after we tuck her in. That girl craves learning!

A few things I've been up to lately.

This project was really easy. Scrapbook paper, a dollar frame from Michaels, and modge podge.

I also changed the picture that was hanging in our front entry way from this . . .

. . . to this.

I got this mirror at a yard sale for $2. The frame was ugly and the back was moldy, so I took them off and mounted the mirror without them. Kind of looks a bathroom in our entry way now, but I think I like it better than before.

And one more thing to throw in this post . . .

Kirk made Luci a drawing table out of an old diaper box and some foam core we had lying around. She's always dying to be in there with him, doing exactly what he's doing, so now she can. (Just ignore our messy office)

Catching up

BBQ

On Saturday we had a picnic at the park. Kirk told me I can't call it a picnic though because we brought our grill. So I guess I'll call it a BBQ. And I must say that it was the best BBQ we've had in a while! We had fresh grilled Alaskan Salmon, strawberry spinach salad, a whole grain baguette, sushi rolls, and frozen yogurt popsicles! The popsicles were melting, so we had to eat those first instead of for desert. Luci was just fine with that!

The park we went to is one of Luci's favorites because it has a sandbox. She could play there for hours! It was like pulling teeth to get her to look up for one picture. Notice the fake "let's get this over with" smile.

We let Clara play in the sand too, and she loved it. Of course we had to stop her from eating sand every couple of seconds.

Clara learns so much by watching her sister. I'm glad Luci is a great example to her!

Their Dad is so cute, if I do say so myself!

I pushed Clara in the swing and she loved it! What a doll she is! Don't you just want to kiss those cheeks?

Here is a random picture of Luci playing in a box. Just thought it was cute!

Bean Art

Last week Luci and I decided to do some dried bean art. When we were getting the supplies out Luci saw the glitter and insisted that we use that too. Here are our final products. Can you tell which one is Luci's?

Yes, there are beans under all of the glitter!

This is what Luci looked like afterwards.

Toes and Teeth

Clara loves sucking on her toes. That might change though because she just got two teeth on the bottom ! Last week Kirk was letting her chew on his finger when he noticed something sharp. Turns out she got teeth without us noticing. I felt like a bad mom. Like I missed out on a monumental time in her life (I know I'm weird that way). It does explain why she started nursing 2-3 times in the night again though . . .ugh!

Training

A week and a half ago I went to a town by Hershey to train for my new job. Kirk came a long with the girls so I wouldn't get lost and so I could nurse Clara before and after (she doesn't take the bottle very well). While I was training, Kirk ventured off to Chocolate World with the girls. This was his first time going somewhere with the girls by himself. I have to admit that I was more nervous for him than I was to train for my new job. To my surprise, the girls were great for him, and no one seemed to notice I was gone. In fact when they came to pick me up Clara didn't even want to nurse.

Kirk is such a great Dad! Our girls are so lucky!

My Two Babies

Our friends gave us an exersaucer for Clara. She loves it a lot . . . .

. . . and so does Luci! Naughty bum!

I'm not quite sure why she likes it so much, it doesn't look very comfortable.

Well, that's all for now!
