Six Months

Clara is six months old now! Time has flown!

Here is a little about her:

-weighs 14 lbs 9oz and is 26 inches long

-sits up all by herself

-still hates her belly and will roll off of it the second you lay her down

-lost most of her newborn hair except for two long hairs in the front, an Alfalfa sprout on her crown, and a mullet in the back.

-sleeps in a crib in Luci's room now

-started solids (not a big fan, unless she can hold the spoon and feed herself)

I love my Clara!

Too much to write about

So much to blog about with so little time. August was a great month for us.

First, my brother Jordan came to visit. He flew into DC, so we made a trip out of it.

On Friday, before Jordan's flight came in, we went to the Temple. It had been nine months since our last visit and we were really looking forward to it. When we arrived, there was a sign on the door saying it was closed. A big storm from the night before left the area without power. Fortunately, the power came back on in time for us to both do a session. We took turns going into the temple and watching the kids.

The next day we rode the metro to the monument mall and did a lot of walking. We ate lunch at the American Indian museum and also went to the Air and Space museum.

On Sunday we went to a Spanish speaking ward. Kirk is conversational in Spanish and had no problem following along. I had no idea what anyone was saying, but had fun singing the hymns and pretending I knew what I was singing.

Our next destination was Lancaster County, home of the Amish. We went to a nice little town called Intercourse (I'm not kidding) where we sampled Amish canned goods, bought bonnets for the girls and had homemade ice cream. The neatest part was seeing the Amish out in their fields working and riding their horse-drawn buggies on the road.

After visiting with the Amish we headed to Chocolate World to go on the free tour. We went on the ride twice then headed home.

I tried to make the next week fun for Jordan while he was stuck at our house. We had a movie night, went swimming in our pool, spent a day at the dam playing on the beach and swimming, and made a secret storage book out of a book we found at a yard sale. He even babysat the girls for us while we went on an overdue date.

On three separate occasions I had someone make a comment referring to me as Jordan's mother. Apparently I look like I'm at least 34!

It was a lot of fun having Jordan stay with us. Hopefully some of my other siblings will make it out to see us too!

When it was time for Jordan to go home, we flew home with him. We purposely coordinated our flights so Jordan could help me with my girls. I was so grateful for his help.

It had been eight months since we last visited Utah and Clara's first time being there. Everyone was so excited to meet her for the first time. Clara did surprisingly well and warmed up to everyone quickly.

Clara got to meet her new cousin Ashlyn who is a few weeks younger than her. Apparently they remember each other from the preexistence because Ashlyn couldn't wait to give Clara a hug.

Nathan and Luci were so excited to see each other too and immediately ran off to play together!

On Saturday we headed over to the Dimond side of the family for a John Deere party. Grandma and Grandpa Dimond have a John Deere car for the grandkids to drive and Luci had a blast. It was funny and scary watching them drive it. Luci got partially ran over by her cousin Kannon and almost ran over Damon and Kannon twice. Everyone survived though!

I spent a lot of my time hanging out with my sister Nicole. Unfortunately, I somehow managed to never get a picture of us together. We pretty much had a crafting marathon the whole time we were there. When we were making satin flowers, Nicole lit her hair on fire. By the time we were done making them, the whole house smelled like melting polyester and burnt hair. Haha, good times!

My cousin Aryn drove up to visit us for a couple of days and I got to meet her baby Rosalie. We had a sewing party with Nicole and made tutu's for our girls. It had been four years since Aryn and I had hung out together, definitely overdue! Thanks for coming up Aryn!

(who needs pants, right?)
We met two of our friends from high school at the park. It was great catching up!

Every night Luci and her Aunt Sarah had a sleep over. They were inseparable. Other aunts and uncles tried to convince Luci to spend time with them, but she would never leave Sarah's side (sorry guys!).

I had a great time seeing family. It was really hard to leave! It felt like I was moving out to PA all over again. Luci got really attached to Grandpa Seegrist the last few days we were there, and had a really hard time leaving him. On our first flight home, she cried herself to sleep while wailing "Grandpa, I want you!". At one point both of my girls were crying and the lady sitting next to Luci gave us a dirty look then cranked up her i pod. It's not easy traveling with two kids and no husband!

Coming home was hard, but I was so excited to see Kirk again. Hopefully one day we can live close to family again!

Half Birthday

The other day Luci asked me, "how come it's going to be a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long day until my birthday?" My replies weren't enough to appease her longing to have a birthday so we decided to celebrate her half birthday, which is today!

To celebrate, Kirk made her a half of a carrot cake with carrots from our garden. Added bonus: it was half whole wheat and half home made (store bought frosting). We gave her three and a half candles and sang Happy half-Birthday to her. Hopefully it appeased her for the next six months.

Luci is such a thinker. The other night when I was tucking her in bed she asked me "are there little people inside us that make pee and poo?" I gave her a nice discussion about our digestive system and asked her if she had any other questions. She immediately rattled off questions without hesitating to think them up, like: "How does our hair stay in?", "How do the walls stay up?", "Why do balls bounce?", "how does the fan work?", "how do we blink", "how does the guy in the music box pop out all by himself?".
I didn't even realize she thought about stuff like that yet. Every night since, we have started a tradition of letting her ask us a couple of questions after we tuck her in. That girl craves learning!

A few things I've been up to lately.

This project was really easy. Scrapbook paper, a dollar frame from Michaels, and modge podge.

I also changed the picture that was hanging in our front entry way from this . . .

. . . to this.

I got this mirror at a yard sale for $2. The frame was ugly and the back was moldy, so I took them off and mounted the mirror without them. Kind of looks a bathroom in our entry way now, but I think I like it better than before.

And one more thing to throw in this post . . .

Kirk made Luci a drawing table out of an old diaper box and some foam core we had lying around. She's always dying to be in there with him, doing exactly what he's doing, so now she can. (Just ignore our messy office)

Catching up

BBQ

On Saturday we had a picnic at the park. Kirk told me I can't call it a picnic though because we brought our grill. So I guess I'll call it a BBQ. And I must say that it was the best BBQ we've had in a while! We had fresh grilled Alaskan Salmon, strawberry spinach salad, a whole grain baguette, sushi rolls, and frozen yogurt popsicles! The popsicles were melting, so we had to eat those first instead of for desert. Luci was just fine with that!

The park we went to is one of Luci's favorites because it has a sandbox. She could play there for hours! It was like pulling teeth to get her to look up for one picture. Notice the fake "let's get this over with" smile.

We let Clara play in the sand too, and she loved it. Of course we had to stop her from eating sand every couple of seconds.

Clara learns so much by watching her sister. I'm glad Luci is a great example to her!

Their Dad is so cute, if I do say so myself!

I pushed Clara in the swing and she loved it! What a doll she is! Don't you just want to kiss those cheeks?

Here is a random picture of Luci playing in a box. Just thought it was cute!

Bean Art

Last week Luci and I decided to do some dried bean art. When we were getting the supplies out Luci saw the glitter and insisted that we use that too. Here are our final products. Can you tell which one is Luci's?

Yes, there are beans under all of the glitter!

This is what Luci looked like afterwards.

Toes and Teeth

Clara loves sucking on her toes. That might change though because she just got two teeth on the bottom ! Last week Kirk was letting her chew on his finger when he noticed something sharp. Turns out she got teeth without us noticing. I felt like a bad mom. Like I missed out on a monumental time in her life (I know I'm weird that way). It does explain why she started nursing 2-3 times in the night again though . . .ugh!

Training

A week and a half ago I went to a town by Hershey to train for my new job. Kirk came a long with the girls so I wouldn't get lost and so I could nurse Clara before and after (she doesn't take the bottle very well). While I was training, Kirk ventured off to Chocolate World with the girls. This was his first time going somewhere with the girls by himself. I have to admit that I was more nervous for him than I was to train for my new job. To my surprise, the girls were great for him, and no one seemed to notice I was gone. In fact when they came to pick me up Clara didn't even want to nurse.

Kirk is such a great Dad! Our girls are so lucky!

My Two Babies

Our friends gave us an exersaucer for Clara. She loves it a lot . . . .

. . . and so does Luci! Naughty bum!

I'm not quite sure why she likes it so much, it doesn't look very comfortable.

Well, that's all for now!
